The AT33xMONO/I is part of the first major redesign of Audio-Technica's venerable AT33 series in years, incorporating new technology and premium materials — including a die-cast zinc base that suppresses resonance and enhances mid-to-low frequency expressiveness within a composite body of zinc, aluminum and high-rigidity polymer.

Its True Mono dual moving coil design, wound with PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire and driven by a neodymium magnet with permendur yoke, generates signal only from horizontal groove movement — ignoring the vertical components where mono surface noise lives. The result is exceptionally clear monaural sound with a more substantial low end and reduced surface noise. A 0.65 mil conical nude stylus, sized for the constant width and depth of mono grooves, rides on a high-rigidity duralumin pipe cantilever that tapers toward the tip for improved response.
