Nature Morte takes its name from the French term for still-life paintings whose literal translation is "dead nature." BIG|BRAVE color these songs with unease, creating an air of beauty in decay, chords suspended in contemplative stillness. Robin Wattie's voice is at once commanding and vulnerable, carving through Mathieu Ball's distortion and the pummel of Tasy Hudson's drums. Recorded primarily live over a week at Machines with Magnets, the trio convey heft from silence as deftly as from swaths of feedback.
