On Attack & Release, Danger Mouse acts as creative co-conspirator rather than a traditional figure behind the boards, coaxing out more of The Black Keys' inherent soulfulness, groove and bittersweet emotion. The two versions of "Remember When" show how the duo swing easily from smoldering ballad to thrashing rocker. "I'm more pleased with the sound of this record than any one we've ever made," says drummer Patrick Carney — and guitarist Dan Auerbach agrees: "anything was game. It was just fun to make."
