First released in 1974, One is the second solo album by jazz keyboardist Bob James, who enlisted a string of experienced players including Steve Gadd and Idris Muhammad on drums, Grover Washington Jr. on sax, and Gary King on bass. Produced by Creed Taylor and recorded at the famed Van Gelder Studios, it is a lush, experimental jazz-funk record and a monument of progressive musical greatness. Its closing track "Nautilus" became one of the most sampled tracks in American music, interpolated or sampled hundreds of times by hip-hop producers. Evosound remastered the album using hi-resolution transfers from the original analog master tapes for this hybrid SACD, which plays on both SACD and standard CD players.
