In between producing all of the Black Jazz label's releases, keyboardist Gene Russell cut two albums of his own for the imprint; this is the second, from 1973. Leading an electric band featuring bassist Henry Franklin and guitarist Calvin Keys, Russell mixes original soul-jazz compositions like "Get Down" with heartfelt covers of "Me and Mrs. Jones" and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." Newly remastered by Mike Milchner with liner notes by Pat Thomas.
