Words Fall Short is Joshua Redman's second Blue Note album, a set of original compositions introducing his new quartet with pianist Paul Cornish, bassist Philip Norris and drummer Nazir Ebo. Formed for the world tour behind his label debut Where Are We, the band developed a vibe on the road that inspired Redman to record this music — written during the pandemic and embracing shifting moods of wistfulness, sadness and resolve. The album features special guests Melissa Aldana, Skylar Tang and vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa.
