News of the Universe is the new full-length from California rock band La Luz — a work of dark, beautiful psychedelia born of calamity, reflecting guitarist and songwriter Shana Cleveland's experience of having her world blown apart by a breast cancer diagnosis. It's also a portrait of a band in flux, marking the first appearance of drummer Audrey Johnson and the final contributions from longtime members Lena Simon and Alice Sandahl. Made entirely by women — from performing and writing through producing, engineering and mastering — it balances La Luz's swaggering riffs with angelic, doo-wop and folk-tinged vocals.
