LEAK - Sandwich 100 Bookshelf Loudspeakers Walnut (Pair)

The most compact model in LEAK’s revived Sandwich range — a 150mm aluminium-foamcore cone in a 10.6-litre walnut cabinet.

The Sandwich 100 arrived in April 2026 to complete the modern Sandwich family, sitting beneath the Sandwich 150 and the three-way Sandwich 250 standmount. It is a compact two-way of 10.6 litres, pairing a 150mm Sandwich-cone mid/bass driver with the same 30mm coated textile dome used across the range, crossed over at 2.2kHz.

The cone is the reason the name came back. In 1961 Don Barlow, working for H. J. Leak & Co., built a diaphragm from expanded polystyrene foam sandwiched between two sheets of aluminium foil — light and many times stiffer than the paper, plastic or plain aluminium cones of the era, and rigid enough that Harold Leak advertised it with a photograph of himself standing on one. The modern version applies the same principle with better materials: a Rohacell polymethacrylimide structural foam core between aluminium skins, bonded with aerospace-grade adhesives. The idea is inherited; the materials are not the same.

Acoustic design is by Peter Comeau, who co-founded Heybrook Hi-Fi in 1979 and now leads acoustic design across IAG’s Wharfedale, Mission and LEAK brands from research centres in Huntingdon, England and Shenzhen. The crossover uses polypropylene capacitors, air-core inductors and low-loss resistors, and LEAK states it was developed by measurement together with extended listening rather than simulation alone.

The cabinet is internally braced and damped, vented by a single rear port, and finished in walnut with an aluminium trim insert and a soft-touch black baffle. A removable classic cloth grille is supplied, and LEAK is explicit that the grille forms part of the speaker’s voicing — it is designed to be listened to with the grille on. At 86dB sensitivity with a 4.8 ohm minimum and a 25–100W recommendation, it is an undemanding load well suited to a modest integrated such as LEAK’s own Stereo 130.
