Andrew Jones takes his concentric-driver point source full range: a three-way floorstander with two dedicated 8-inch woofers underneath.

The SourcePoint 888 is the flagship expression of Chief Loudspeaker Designer Andrew Jones’ work for MoFi Electronics. His brief, in his own words: “My goal for the SourcePoint 888 is to enhance the technology and sound quality of the SourcePoint 8 and elevate it to an even higher performance level.” That meant keeping the coherence of a true point source at the top and handing the bass off to drivers built specifically for the job.

At the heart of the cabinet is a concentric driver pairing an 8-inch paper midrange cone with a 1.25-inch wide-roll soft dome tweeter mounted at its center, so midrange and treble radiate from the same point in space. It is closely related to the driver in the SourcePoint 8, but here it is relieved of bass duty entirely: two newly developed 8-inch paper-cone woofers take over below 130 Hz in a vented three-way system, with the second crossover at 1.6 kHz.

That architecture explains a specification that looks odd at first glance. The 888 is rated at 87dB, the same as the much smaller SourcePoint 8, because system sensitivity is set by the midrange and treble passband — the same driver in the same loading. The extra woofers do not raise midband sensitivity; they extend bass to 32 Hz and raise power handling. What you gain is reach and headroom, not loudness per watt.

The cabinet is thick MDF with substantial internal bracing, and the front is a multi-faceted baffle shaped to eliminate diffraction so the drivers’ response stays smooth and even rather than being smeared by cabinet edges. It is rear-ported and bi-wirable. Grilles attach magnetically and come off cleanly for critical listening. Finishes are real wood veneer: Satin Black Ash, Satin Walnut and Satin White Ash. Sold as a pair.
