Ortofon - 2M Bronze Replacement Stylus

The nude Fine Line diamond from the 2M Bronze, at r/R 8/40 µm — a far narrower contact radius than the elliptical profiles below it.

This is the replacement diamond for the 2M Bronze, and it is the point in the 2M range where the stylus profile changes character rather than simply improving. Where the Red and Blue use elliptical shapes with an 18 µm side radius, the Fine Line runs 8/40 µm — a much longer, narrower contact flank that sits deeper in the groove wall and traces high-frequency modulation the elliptical profiles physically cannot resolve.

It also tracks lighter as a consequence, at a recommended 1.5g rather than the 1.8g of the models below, with compliance of 22 µm/mN. Ortofon lists it for the 2M Bronze, 2MR Bronze and 2M Bronze Premounted.

The boundary worth being precise about: the Bronze belongs to Ortofon’s Bronze / Black / Black LVB 250 interchange group, which runs on a different engine from the Red and Blue — silver-plated OFC coil wire, lower impedance, lower inductance. A Bronze stylus will physically mount on a Red or Blue body, but Ortofon nowhere states that combination is supported or that it delivers Bronze performance, and the recommended tracking force differs. We do not sell it as a Red or Blue upgrade, because Ortofon does not.

• Warranty: Ortofon Inc. covers products bought from an authorised US dealer for one year against defects in workmanship and materials, and excludes expendable items. A stylus is an expendable item, so a worn stylus is not a warranty matter — this is a replacement part, not a claim
• Not Published: Equivalent stylus tip mass. Ortofon publishes 0.5mg for the Red and Blue styli but gives no figure for the Bronze, which is a curious gap given that lower tip mass is the core technical claim for the profile
• Note: Ortofon’s own compatibility list names the standard, 2MR and premounted bodies but omits the bottom-mount Verso. The Verso is mechanically the same body with a reversed top plate, so the stylus does fit, but Ortofon has never put that in writing — we would rather tell you that than pretend the endorsement exists
