Ortofon - HiFi Maintenance Set

A stylus brush and a mini screwdriver in a storage tube — the two things you need to fit a cartridge and keep it clean.

This is the small, focused kit rather than the full setup solution. A fibre stylus brush and a mini screwdriver, packed in a clear Ortofon storage tube.

Ortofon’s stated purpose is to extend cartridge life by keeping it clean and correctly installed, and the two items map onto exactly those halves. The brush handles the cleaning: drawn along the cantilever from the rear of the cartridge forward toward the tip, never backward and never sideways, ideally with every new record or side change. The screwdriver handles the mounting, since headshell screws are the one part of fitting a cartridge that actually requires a tool — and a properly sized driver is what stops you slipping into a cantilever.

Worth knowing: this and Ortofon’s larger HiFi Accessory Pack are not a small-and-large pair. Their only shared item is the stylus brush, and this smaller set is the only one of the two that includes a screwdriver. Someone setting a cartridge up from scratch arguably wants both.

For records specifically, Ortofon does permit lukewarm demineralised water with a dash of sulphonic soap, used in minimal amounts — but that is for the record only, never the stylus
