Originally released in 1981, Album of the Year finds drummer and bandleader Art Blakey leading a celebrated edition of the Jazz Messengers — trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, saxophonists Bobby Watson and Bill Pierce, pianist James Williams and bassist Charles Fambrough. Recorded in Paris, it includes "Cheryl" (written by Charlie Parker), "Soulful Mister Timmons" and "Little Man," with liner notes by Ted Panken.
