Though some claimed Holiday was past her peak, Miles Davis countered that this was her most effective period, with her "deepest understanding and control" of the material. Her supporting cast underlines the point, featuring Barney Kessel (guitar), Ben Webster (tenor sax), Harry "Sweets" Edison (trumpet) and Jimmy Rowles (piano).
