The crystalline vibraphone of Bobby Hutcherson was an essential element of Blue Note's 1960s catalog, from hard bop to the avant-garde. Following his 1965 album Components, Hutcherson returned to Van Gelder Studio in February 1966 for Happenings, his fourth Blue Note session as a leader and his first with a quartet. This sublime post-bop outing presents six captivating Hutcherson originals — including the spellbinding ballad "Bouquet," the Latin-tinged "Rojo," and the hard-charging "Head Start" — plus a reading of Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage." This stereo, all-analog edition was mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes.
