Personnel trouble that saw Bruce Palmer and Neil Young in and out of the group meant Buffalo Springfield's second album did not have the unified approach of their debut, but the band made major strides in songwriting and arranging, and Buffalo Springfield Again stands as their greatest triumph. It peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, and as of 2012 sat at No. 188 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Stephen Stills' "Bluebird" and "Rock & Roll Woman" are masterful folk-rockers that should have been big hits, and his lesser-known "Hung Upside Down" and the jazz-flavored "Everydays" are first-rate as well. Neil Young contributed the Rolling Stones-derived "Mr. Soul" plus "Expecting to Fly" and "Broken Arrow," both built on lush psychedelic textures and brooding, surrealistic lyrics that stretched rock conventions to the breaking point. Richie Furay, who had written none of the songs on the debut, takes his first steps as a writer with three compositions; "A Child's Claim to Fame," with its memorable dobro hooks by James Burton, anticipates the country-rock direction of his post-Springfield band, Poco.

Part of "75 for 75," the Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series celebrating the 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records, this reissue is cut at 45 RPM across two 180 gram LPs, pressed at Quality Record Pressings and housed in a tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket from Stoughton Printing.
