This collection of rare Charlie Parker recordings from 1941–1951 — most never before heard, and some never even known to exist — chronicles Bird's evolution from a blossoming soloist with the Jay McShann band into the brilliant improviser who would dominate the jazz landscape for decades to come. Alongside two unreleased 78s with the McShann band, the set gathers private recordings made with local musicians and a notably relaxed-sounding Parker.
