Curtis Amy & Frank Butler - Groovin' Blue - Tone Poet LP
$38.99
180g Vinyl, Blue Note Tone Poet Audiophile Reissue
Tenor saxophonist Curtis Amy's hard-swinging 1961 Pacific Jazz date Groovin' Blue, co-led with drummer Frank Butler, is among the earliest recordings to feature a 19-year-old Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, alongside trumpeter Carmell Jones (his recorded debut), pianist Frank Strazzeri, and bassist Jimmy Bond. Highlights include the driving "Gone Into It," the bluesy title track, and the ballad showcase "Beautiful You." Mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes and pressed at RTI in a deluxe tip-on jacket.
