Eric conducts the work, which combines his first love of electronica and synthesizers with his choir, the Eric Whitacre Singers, strings and piano. The album explores the connection between the poem's opening line, "To see a world in a grain of sand," and granular synthesis; Eric even "grainified" the poetry, taking slivers of each line for each movement, where only those words are sung. A self-described long-time "synth nerd," Eric uses the raw, mystical sound of the Lyra-8 synthesizer alongside a Tascam 424 tape recorder, while playing all the piano parts on his grandmother's 125-year-old piano, the sound of his childhood.

Features

2-LP set

Performed by the Eric Whitacre Singers, strings and piano, conducted by Eric Whitacre

Label: Decca

Track Listing

To See a World

In a Grain of Sand

And a Heaven

In a Wild Flower

Hold Infinity

In the Palm of Your Hand

And Eternity

In an Hour

%^&1&*

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0558/5027/0926/files/Eternity_in_an_Hour_-_2LP_2048x2048_aa71f0f7-1068-43a7-9b37-c322db8dd0db.png?v=1791939091
