The funk fans have been waiting for this one. Grant Green's near-perfect slice of jazz funk and soul, Live at Club Mozambique, is finally on vinyl, remastered and pressed back in the Motor City. Recorded live on two cold January nights in 1971 at Detroit's Club Mozambique, the session pairs Green's working band — Ronnie Foster on organ and Clarence Thomas on saxes — with powerhouse drummer Idris Muhammad and soulful tenor star Houston Person, captured by Blue Note producer Francis Wolff. Shelved for decades, it blends hypnotic funk like the opening "Jan Jan" with laid-back takes on early-70s soul favorites, perfectly capturing a legendary band at the top of its game.
