Ike Quebec - The Complete Blue Note 45 Sessions - Tone Poet LP
180g 3LP, Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, All-Analog
The Complete Blue Note 45 Sessions collects a phenomenal body of work that saxophonist Ike Quebec recorded between 1959 and 1962. After a difficult stretch through the 1950s, Quebec—a key Blue Note talent scout who had championed Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell—reconnected with Alfred Lion, who began reintroducing his music through a series of 45 jukebox singles. His full-throated yet relaxed sound was ideally suited to everything from ballads to blues, yielding classics like "A Light Reprieve," "Blue Monday," and "What a Difference a Day Makes" before his career was tragically cut short by his death in 1963. This Tone Poet Edition is produced by Joe Harley, all-analog, cut directly from Rudy Van Gelder's original master tapes by Kevin Gray, and pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI in a deluxe tip-on trifold jacket with a booklet of never-before-seen Francis Wolff photos.
