Recorded in September 1962 but unreleased until 1979, Tippin' the Scales is a swinging, relaxed hard-bop quartet date from alto saxophonist Jackie McLean with Sonny Clark (piano), Butch Warren (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). Two McLean originals join three Sonny Clark tunes and a tender reading of Vernon Duke's "Cabin in the Sky." Part of Blue Note's acclaimed Tone Poet Series, mastered all-analog from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI.
