Complete & Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul was the soul legend's 1966 album and the final one released during his lifetime. The original LP leans on covers across side one and Redding originals across side two, and it is packed with backing talent: Booker T. & the M.G.'s — organist Booker T. Jones, pianist and guitarist Steve Cropper, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, and drummer Al Jackson, Jr. — along with pianist Isaac Hayes and the Memphis Horns, made up of tenor saxophonists Joe Arnold and Andrew Love, trumpeter Wayne Jackson, and baritone saxophonist Floyd Newman.
Released in October 1966 on Stax, the album reached No. 73 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the R&B LP chart, and produced two singles, "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)" and "Try a Little Tenderness." It was voted No. 488 in Colin Larkin's All Time Top 1,000 Albums in 2000, and in 2020 it was ranked No. 448 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. This reissue is part of "75 for 75," the Atlantic 75 series marking Atlantic Records' 75th anniversary; the hybrid disc adds a Red Book stereo CD layer for conventional players.
