Marking 50 years since its first release, this limited-edition deluxe presentation of one of Decca's most acclaimed opera recordings features an accomplished cast led by Mirella Freni and Luciano Pavarotti, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. It is the first new vinyl release of the recording since the 1980s, part of Decca's Pavarotti–Puccini reissues marking 100 years since the composer's death. The set uses new high-definition 24-bit/192kHz transfers from the original 1975 master tapes, with LPs cut at Abbey Road Studios and pressed on 180g vinyl with poly-lined inner sleeves. It is accompanied by a lavishly presented hardback book — housed in a deluxe cloth-wrapped rigid slipcase — with new essays, the complete libretto in Italian with English and German translations, archival and recently unearthed photographs, and an exclusive 1920s-style collectible poster.
