Between 1955 and 1961 Miles Davis led the quintet and sextet that changed the course of jazz, spotlighting John Coltrane alongside Cannonball Adderley, Red Garland, Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones and Jimmy Cobb. Originally produced by Michael Cuscuna and Bob Belden in 2000, this collection gathers 58 tracks from 'Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, Someday My Prince Will Come and Kind of Blue, plus the Davis-with-Coltrane selections from Miles and Monk at Newport, Birth of the Blue, Basic Miles and Circle in the Round, and 18 tracks unavailable anywhere else. The original set won 2001 Grammys for Best Boxed Recording Package and Best Album Notes, and on vinyl was previously released only in a very limited Mosaic Records edition. It is reissued here, widely available for the first time, for both artists' centennial.
