Released in 1972, Miles Davis' On the Corner is his boldest and most controversial statement — a funk-loaded, groove-driven work that dialed back improvisation in favor of layered rhythm, trance-like loops, and pioneering studio production. Inspired by Sly and the Family Stone and built on Teo Macero's editing-room techniques, it presaged remixing and electronica by more than a decade.
