Various Artists - Verve Records: The Sound of America - LP Box Set
4LP Box Set, Limited Edition, 140 Gram Vinyl
As an independent producer going back to the early 1940s, Norman Granz built a personal network of record companies disc by disc and artist by artist, growing it into a tsunami by the time he sold Verve at the end of 1960 — a feat unmatched to this day. This 4LP box celebrates the full spectrum of the Granz era: vocal sides from Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker with strings, a raucous live jam session, Beatnik poetry from Jack Kerouac and even stand-up comedy. The four LPs come in individual sleeves inside a two-piece lift-off box with Verve's period design, alongside a large-format twelve-page booklet.
