[Pre Order] Walter Bishop Jr. - Coral Keys - LP *
Release Date: August 7, 2026
The classic 1971 Black Jazz session, remastered and pressed on blue with black swirl vinyl limited to 500 copies.
For Black Jazz's second release, label producer Gene Russell turned to pianist Walter Bishop, Jr., whose record features all originals — most notably "Soul Turn Around," later cut by Freddie Hubbard on 1969's A Soul Experiment. Bishop assembled a heavy-hitting line-up for Coral Keys: Woody Shaw on trumpet, Reggie Johnson on bass, Idris Muhammad on drums, and Harold Vick on flute, tenor, and soprano sax. Think Herbie Hancock's '60s Blue Note recordings polished with a soul-jazz sheen — tasty stuff that was hard to find for far too long.
