Released in 1988, Lovesexy was Prince's brighter, more melodic and spiritually charged follow-up to Sign o' the Times, recorded after he famously scrapped The Black Album just before its release. Inspired by the more spiritual direction his music had taken in the second half of the decade, Prince described it as his gospel album — a record built to unite and uplift.
