The 2017 album from Austin's psych-rock masters The Black Angels, Death Song was the five-piece's first full-length in four years. Written and recorded largely during the 2016 election cycle, the music serves as part protest, part emotional catharsis in a climate of division and unease. Produced by Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, The Shins) and recorded between Seattle and Austin, the 11-track set hones the band's signature menacing fuzz guitar and cutting wordplay into a murky, hallucinatory dream.
