It is drawn from two late-1969 dates, at the End of Cole Ave in Dallas and the Matrix in San Francisco, sourced from fan tape recordings, two-track mixdowns straight from the live console, and acetate copies. Few Velvet Underground recordings exist from before 1970, which has made this compilation a treasured gem among fans. The tracks showcase a stripped-down and vulnerable Lou Reed accompanied by a band at arguably their creative zenith.
