Fit for the global stage and inheriting much of its engineering from Yamaha's flagship A-S3200, the A-S2200 is built around a fully balanced signal path that runs all the way from the balanced XLR input to the speaker terminals. At its heart is Yamaha's floating & balanced power amplifier, fed by a massive 625 VA toroidal power transformer — the kind of supply usually reserved for flagship components — delivering 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms (150 watts into 4 ohms) with an effortless, open soundstage. Vinyl fans get a proper built-in phono stage for both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, and headphone listeners get their own fully discrete headphone amplifier rather than an afterthought op-amp.

Yamaha's mechanical ground concept maximizes chassis rigidity for expressive, rhythmic bass: the power transformer, block capacitors and large heat sink are bolted directly to the chassis, and the heavy brass feet are secured to bolts welded straight into the main frame. Thick ground wiring supports a low-impedance design, internal speaker runs use PC-Triple C copper wire (2.7 mm), and the pure brass speaker terminals are cut from solid brass and tighten securely by hand. Up front, softly illuminated level meters dance with the dynamics of the music — a gorgeous nod to the golden era of hi-fi, finished with a thick aluminum fascia and piano black side panels.
