Audio-Technica - VM740ML Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge

The MicroLine-equipped standout of Audio-Technica's original VM700 Series, built to pull detail out of the groove that elliptical styli simply glide past.

The VM740ML belongs to Audio-Technica's VM line, a range that harks back to A-T's early days as a manufacturer primarily of high-end phono cartridges while incorporating today's advanced technology. Its dual moving magnet design places two magnets to match the left and right channels cut into the record groove, paired with paratoroidal coils for improved generating efficiency and a center shield plate between channels to reduce crosstalk. This is the previous-generation VM700 Series model, since succeeded by the current AT-VM740xML refresh.

Its 2.2 x 0.12 mil MicroLine stylus, in nude square-shank construction, traces the record groove with incredible accuracy and rides on an aluminum tapered pipe cantilever. The die-cast aluminum alloy housing reduces vibration and provides shielding, and the stylus is user-replaceable when the time comes.
