The 2016 Stones Throw debut from Frankie Reyes, the alias of Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker (also known as GB / Gifted & Blessed). Reworking popular mid-twentieth-century Latin standards — mostly boleros, with a few waltzes, son, and mariachi styles — Reyes recontextualizes these classics on a single Oberheim synthesizer. By removing the lyrics, the emphasis stays on the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic heart of the songs.
