Six years after Panorama, Michigan post-hardcore band La Dispute return with their fifth studio album and first entirely self-produced effort, assembled across Grand Rapids, Detroit, the UK, Australia, and the Philippines. Partly inspired by the 2017 thriller First Reformed, No One Was Driving the Car reckons with malaise in the shadow of a looming apocalypse worsened by technology; its title comes from a police officer's quote about a fatal self-driving car crash. Across fourteen dynamic tracks, the band grapples with the human need to find comfort and security in a chaotic existence.
