I Am Both was made at Reservoir Studios in New York City with three-time Grammy winner Joe Henry producing. Glaspy stepped away from social media before writing it, drafting lyrics by hand and refining them on a typewriter, and the eleven songs move from fictional vignettes to unguarded self-revelation. The result is folk-leaning indie rock built around her direct vocal delivery and that instantly recognizable electric guitar tone.
