Freedom Now Suite is one of the most important artistic statements of the Civil Rights Movement and one of the most groundbreaking jazz albums of all time. Recorded for Candid in 1960 with lyricist Oscar Brown Jr. and produced by Nat Hentoff, its five movements trace African-American history from slavery to emancipation to the contemporary struggle, featuring Abbey Lincoln, Coleman Hawkins, Eric Dolphy, Booker Little and Michael Babatunde Olatunji.
