Mongo Santamaria - Mambo Mongo - 180g One-Step LP

Mongo Santamaria's Chesky gem, reissued as a 180g one-step pressing.

Part of Chesky's Original Masters reissue series, Mambo Mongo was recorded March 30–31, 1992, and was both the 100th release on the Chesky label and Santamaria's only album for the company. The Latin jazz date features Santamaria's group of the era with guest flutists Hubert Laws (on "Dark Before The Dawn" and "Are They Only Dreams") and David Valentin (on "Caribbean Sunrise" and "Los Ninos Del Mundo"), plus pianist Dario Eskenazi, Craig Rivers on tenor and soprano and altoist Jimmy Cozier. The closer, "La Mogolla", teams Santamaria with three other percussionists for nine and a half minutes of rhythm. Produced by label head David Chesky.
