[Pre Order] Big Mama Thornton - In Europe - LP

Release Date: December 4, 2026

Her debut full-length, cut in London in 1965 with Buddy Guy and Mississippi Fred McDowell — reissued in mono with a tip-on cover and the original artwork.

This reissue marks the centennial of a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and Blues Hall of Famer, a rock & roll, blues and rhythm & blues originator, a primary influence on Elvis Presley and on the British blues bands of the 1960s, and the subject of a new PBS documentary. She had a million-selling, R&B chart-topping hit with "Hound Dog," later covered by Presley, and went on to inspire Janis Joplin — who recorded her "Ball n' Chain" — and Alabama Shakes.

Recorded during the legendary American Folk Blues Festival, her debut full-length album sees her reinterpreting her biggest hit for a 1960s audience backed by Buddy Guy, and, on several tracks, deep bluesman Mississippi Fred McDowell.
