On August 15, 1972, Deep Purple's famed Mk II lineup — Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice — took the stage in Japan for the first of three shows that gave rise to one of rock's most celebrated live albums, Made in Japan. Recorded to eight-track tape by engineer Martin Birch at Festival Hall in Osaka and the Budokan in Tokyo, the performances capture the band at full throttle on staples like "Smoke on the Water," "Highway Star," and "Space Truckin'." This Super Deluxe Edition presents a new stereo mix of the original by Steven Wilson, all three concerts newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits.
