Elvin Jones' 1968 Blue Note debut Puttin' It Together marked the start of a new chapter for the master drummer following his six years with the seminal John Coltrane Quartet. Joined by bassist Jimmy Garrison and multi-instrumentalist Joe Farrell—heard on tenor sax, soprano sax, flute, and piccolo—the spare trio format makes for a lively three-way dialogue, with highlights including the Brazilian tune "Reza," Garrison's playful "Sweet Little Maia," and Jones' "Keiko's Birthday March." This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is stereo, all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
