When soul history shifted in the late '60s, Etta James was right at the center of the storm. Between August and December of 1967, she walked into FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals looking for a creative spark — and walked out with the greatest album of her career, Tell Mama. Powered by the legendary Muscle Shoals rhythm section, James delivers commanding, emotionally charged performances: the title track and her scorching take on Otis Redding's "Security" both stormed the charts, while "I'd Rather Go Blind" became a soul masterwork covered hundreds of times but never surpassed. Mastered all-analog by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP.
