Freddie Roach - Good Move! - Tone Poet LP
180g Vinyl LP — Blue Note Tone Poet Audiophile Reissue, Mastered by Kevin Gray, Gatefold Tip-On Jacket
In the 1960s Blue Note's roster of Hammond B3 organists was second to none, and Freddie Roach carved out his own soulful niche. First heard backing Ike Quebec, Roach launched his own run of leader dates including this 1963 standout, joined by Blue Mitchell on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Eddie Wright on guitar, and Clarence Johnston on drums. This soul-jazz classic makes all the right moves, from the Oscar Brown-penned "When Malindy Sings" to Roach's church-rooted originals "Wine, Wine, Wine" and "On Our Way Up," written on the day of the historic March on Washington.
