Gerry Mulligan & Johnny Hodges - Gerry Mulligan Meets Johnny Hodges - Acoustic Sounds Series LP
180 Gram Vinyl, Acoustic Sounds Series, Gatefold Jacket
Recorded in 1959, Gerry Mulligan Meets Johnny Hodges is heralded as one of the best of Mulligan's recorded pairings with a fellow instrumentalist. The two saxophonists are joined by a solid rhythm section of Claude Williamson (piano), Buddy Clark (bass) and Mel Lewis (drums), splitting the repertoire across three originals each. They complement one another throughout, except on Mulligan's "What's the Rush," where the baritonist sits out in favor of Hodges' alto. Verve's Acoustic Sounds Series presents the album remastered from the original master tapes on 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.
