Following his 1965 masterpiece Maiden Voyage, pianist Herbie Hancock returned in 1968 with the innovative Speak Like a Child, a showcase of his artistry as pianist, composer and arranger. Hancock expanded his tonal palette with flugelhorn (Thad Jones), bass trombone (Peter Phillips) and alto flute (Jerry Dodgion) alongside his trio of bassist Ron Carter and drummer Mickey Roker. The six-song set spans the alluring title track, the churning "Riot," the plaintive "Goodbye to Childhood," and the Miles Davis dedication "The Sorcerer." This stereo, all-analog edition was mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes.
