Two months after recording The Sidewinder, trumpeter Lee Morgan returned to Van Gelder Studio in February 1964 to create his masterful Search for the New Land. He assembled a sextet of young Blue Note stars — Herbie Hancock on piano, Grant Green on guitar, Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone, plus Reggie Workman and Billy Higgins. The album opens with the expansive 16-minute title track and follows with four more indelible Morgan originals.
