Pianist Mal Waldron's 1962 album The Quest features Eric Dolphy (alto sax, clarinet) and Booker Ervin (tenor sax), with Ron Carter on cello, Joe Benjamin on bass, and Charles Persip on drums. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder Studios, its seven cuts fall somewhere between hard-bop and the avant-garde. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.
