Sheila Jordan - Portrait Of Sheila - Tone Poet LP
$38.99
Blue Note Tone Poet Series, Stereo 180g Vinyl, Tip-On Jacket
Detroit-born singer Sheila Jordan moved to New York in 1951 and became a fixture on the jazz scene, befriending Charlie Parker and studying with Charles Mingus and Lennie Tristano. She presented her inimitable vocal stylings on her 1962 debut Portrait Of Sheila, one of only two vocal albums Blue Note recorded during that era. Accompanied by a trio of Barry Galbraith (guitar), Steve Swallow (bass) and Denzil Best (drums), she delivers swinging standards, expressive ballads, and a tour-de-force voice-and-bass duo on "Dat Dere."
