One of the finest pianists and composers of the hard bop era, Sonny Clark followed his 1957 debut with the stellar sextet session Sonny's Crib, a swinging set of standards and originals. The lineup features John Coltrane on tenor sax, Donald Byrd on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Taylor on drums. Coltrane — who would record Blue Train just two weeks later — is in top form throughout.
