Sonny Rollins' classic 1957 album Way Out West was his first for the Contemporary Records label, recorded in legendary 3 a.m. sessions with bassist Ray Brown and West Coast drummer Shelly Manne – neither of whom Rollins had played with before. The sparse pianoless trio gives Rollins enormous harmonic freedom, from the swinging "I'm an Old Cowhand" to the haunting title track. This Analogue Productions UHQR edition presents it on Clarity Vinyl for the purest possible pressing.
