The Horace Silver Quintet - The Tokyo Blues - Tone Poet LP
180g Vinyl LP — Blue Note Tone Poet Series, Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Analog Tapes
Horace Silver's 1962 tour of Japan left such a deep impression that the pianist dedicated his next album, The Tokyo Blues, to his Japanese fans. Backed by his quintet — trumpeter Blue Mitchell, tenor saxophonist Junior Cook, bassist Gene Taylor, and drummer John Harris Jr. — Silver delivered an inspired five-song set of originals plus Ronnell Bright's lovely ballad "Cherry Blossom," seeking to combine Japanese feeling in the melodies with Latin feeling in the rhythms. This stereo Tone Poet edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
